A Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC Commissioner, David Rosner, has urged the nations six regional grid operators to adopt software and automation solutions to speed up interconnection studies for large-scale renewables, which have delayed about 2500 GW of renewable and storage projects nationwide. Rosner highlighted that an automation solution used by midcontinent grid operator MISO, Pearl Street Technologies, could produce a manual study of a large interconnection cluster that took nearly two years to complete in just 10 days. MISO has partnered with Pearl Street Technology to implement SUGAR, an interconnection automation platform developed by Pearl Street, which is said to be the largest-ever investment in interconnection study automation made by a transmission provider. The company expects to implement phase 1 automation for its 2023 and 2025 cycles later this year.
