A new automated assembly system by Prime Test Automation has been designed to tackle the challenge of a fast cycle time requirement and tight fit between the parts. The process involves an adhesive application, press-fit assembly, thermal testing, and laser marking. The cycle time required 4.5 seconds per assembly, increasing precision for the system. Each assembly also required a thermal test to ensure quality. The system uses vibratory bowls to feed components into the system, which can adapt to variable part orientations. Despite the numerous steps, assembly takes just under 4.
