ExxonMobils Open Process Automation (OPA) program, led by David DeBari, technical team leader for the companys open process automation program, has demonstrated its potential at the YNOW2024 conference. He highlighted ExxonMobils live plant using OPA technology in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as a significant step forward in the progression of OPA, stating that the company expects to be fully running on the OPA system by the end of the year. The company is also working with other end users and suppliers to transition industry from closed and proprietary automation to an open and secure, standards-based system that promotes innovation and value creation. The initial OPA Standard (O-PAS) was a significant milestone, and this year, ExxonMobil released version 2.1 of the standard, creating an open architecture from which they could build systems. The project used a variety of vendors and a shared data model.
